Mary Ann Shepherd of Fairfield, IA passed away of natural causes at Nelson Nursing Home on Wednesday, February 7, 2007.

Funeral services were held 10:00 AM, Monday, February 12, 2007 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Fairfield, IA with Fr. Stephen Page presiding. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.

Memorials may be made to the Fairfield Public Library or Masses at St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Mary Ann Shepherd was born July 30, 1917 in West Point, Iowa, the daughter of Anton and Mary (Bohnenkamp) Box. Her mother died July 31, 1917, and her father passed away seven years later in 1924. Mary attended Ottumwa Heights School in Ottumwa and graduated from Marquette Catholic High School in West Point, IA. She worked for a short time in Chicago before moving to Burlington, IA.

Mary was united in marriage with Loren "Barney" Shepherd on September 10, 1938 in Burlington. After living in Burlington for 8 years, they moved to Fairfield in 1946. Loren worked for and later purchased Cook;s Transfer in Fairfield.

Mary was a long time parishioner of St. Mary Catholic Church in Fairfield, TTT, and the Walton and Elks Clubs. She was an avid bridge player and loved to play piano. She enjoyed playing games with her grandchildren. Mary was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, but disliked Harry Carray.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Loren (1971), and one grandson, Mitchell Shepherd (1983).

Mary is survived by four children, Donna and husband Bob Adams of Oskaloosa, IA; Pat and husband Ralph Woodward of Ottumwa, IA; Tom Shepherd and wife Karen (Vorhies) of Kirkland, WA; and Steve Shepherd and wife Georgia (Moffett) of Cedar Rapids, IA. Mary has 11 grandchildren; Kathy Love, Kay Atwood, Craig Fulton, Kristie Mitrisin, Karla Whitaker, Ryan Fulton, Tyler Fulton, Kyle Love, Alex Love, Madison Whitaker, and Kelsey Whitaker, and 14 great-grandchildren.
