Mary Lee Stephenson Hagelin

Mary Lee Stephenson Hagelin died in her sleep with loved ones by her side on October 10, 2022.  Lee was born on April 3, 1927, in Chicago, IL to Mary Helene Berquist Stephenson and Hubert Vincenz Stephenson.  Growing up with her two sisters, Jeanine and Viola, she lived in Rock Island, IL; Excelsior Springs, MO; Washington DC; and Aspinwall, PA.  After attending Aspinwall High School, Lee received her BA at University of Pittsburgh where she met her late husband, Carl William ‘Bill’ Hagelin in the Heinz Chapel Choir.  They were married on September 2, 1950, at Calvary Church in Pittsburgh.

Lee and Bill raised 4 sons in Fairfield, CT.  Lee led the nursery school at Trinity Episcopal Church in Southport, CT and taught first grade at the Fairfield Country Day school. Lee loved her family, had a sharp sense of humor, a deep love of her pet dogs, and her equestrian activities.  Lee is survived by her four sons Carl, John, Daniel, and Nathan, daughters-in-law Joan, Kara, Doreen, and Tobin, 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
