Merle C. Schneider

Merle C. Schneider, age 89, of Fairfield, passed away Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at University of Iowa Medical Center in Iowa City.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 2, 2010 at Behner Funeral Home, with words of comfort by Tom Cope. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.

Family visitation will be Friday, October 1, 2010 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Behner Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the donor's choice or Animal Lifeline of Iowa (Des Moines shelter). Cards and memorials may be sent to 906 Oakwood Dr. Fairfield, Iowa.

Merle was born February 22, 1921 in Morningsun, Iowa to Charles Jacob and Annetta Sulzberger Schneider. He married Marilyn Ruth Chezum on June 9, 1946 at the Chapel of the United Methodist Church in Fairfield.

Merle served with the U.S. Signal Corps in WW II and was a radio operator for the Iowa State Patrol.

Merle is survived by his wife, 2 daughters: June Elaine Schneider of Millersville, Md. and Diana Lea Schneider of Urbandale, Ia., 1 son: Charles "Mike" Michael Schneider of Des Moines, Ia., 2 grandchildren: Cameron Sugden and Thomas Sugden, 2 great grandchildren: Jacob Sugden and Tanner Sugden and 1 brother: Dean Schneider of Golden Valley, Mn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 infant daughter: Ruth Louise, 2 sisters: Marge Allen and Irene Baylor and 1 brother: Chan Schneider.
