Michael James Lang, Sr

Michael J. Lang, Sr., age 60, passed away Saturday, June 10, 2006 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

A Celebration of his Life was held 7:30 PM, Thursday, June 15, 2006 at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield, Iowa. Friends and family had an opportunity to talk about their lives with Michael.

Michael James Lang, Sr. was born May 31, 1946 in Newark, OH, the son of Andrew and Evelyn (Jones) Lang. He served in the U.S. Navy for two years and married Edith Pusey on October 31, 1968. They are the parents of one son, Michael J. Lang, Jr.

Michael began practicing Transcendental Meditation in 1973 and moved his family to Fairfield in 1975. In 1976, he traveled to France to become a teacher of TM and then traveled throughout New England with his family, teaching TM.

In 1980, Michael and his family returned to Fairfield where he served on the staff at M.I.U. for a number of years. Michael was employed at Express Shipping Centers, and Books Are Fun from '96-'2001. He started his own business in 2001 coordinating corporate conferences and retired in 2002 due to health reasons. Michael spent the last four years having fun with his grandchildren. He attended most of their school functions and sporting events, always offering his support and encouragement.

Michael is survived by his former wife, Edith, his son Michael and his daughter-in-law Donna. Michael was grandfather to Ryan Lang, Sasha Lang and Brianna Lang, all of Fairfield.

Survivors include two sisters and three brothers: Pat Blakely and her husband Pierre Foody of Gold Canyon, AZ, Kathy Kluger and her husband Harry of York, ME, Tom & Charlotte Land of Richardson, TX, David & Maggie Lang of Monterey, CA and Dennis & Sheri Lang of Seattle, WA. He will be fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews and many friends.
