Mildred I. Channel, age 93, formerly of Libertyville, IA, passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at Parkview Care Center in Fairfield.

Funeral services were held 2:00 PM, Sunday, June 3, 2007 at Faith United Methodist Church in Libertville with Rev. Michael Renken officiating. Interment followed in Fell Cemetery in Libertyville.

Mildred I. Channel was born October 13, 1913 in Birmingham, IA, the daughter of Pearl A. and Mary (Grammar) Smith. She graduated from Birmingham High School, and lived most of her life in the Libertyville area.

Mildred was united in marriage with Herschel Channel and they were the parents of two children; Mary Ann and Roger. Herschel passed away in 1979.

Mildred was employed at Universal Producing Company. Later, she and Herschel owned and operated the Libertyville Cafe for a number of years. She was later employed at Parkview Care Center in Fairfield. Mildred was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, and her tasty hobbies included baking pies, rolls and making candy, as well as enjoying watching birds and flowers.

Mildred will be missed by her children and their families: Mary Ann Eklund and husband Larry of Batavia, IA, and Roger Channel and wife Terri of Libertyville, IA. Mildred has 5 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Survivors also include one brother, Robert Smith, of Keosauqua, IA.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, husband Herschel, three sisters: Ella Mae "Smitty" Reed, Bernice Collins, and Shirley Norris, and two brothers: Roland "Red" Smith, John Smith, and an infant brother, Hugh.
