Mildred Mae Johnson

Mildred M. Johnson, age 85 of Fairfield, passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at the Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield.

Her body has been cremated and graveside inurnment services will be held at a later date.

Mildred Mae Edwards Johnson was born December 18, 1923 in Maquoketa, Jackson County, IA to Lawrence and Virgil Mae (Bollinger) Edwards. She graduated from high school and was united in marriage with Myron Everett Johnson in Maquoketa February 4, 1939. He preceded her in death on April 7, 2008.

Mildred was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She was employed in the clerical insurance department of the Jefferson County Hospital. She attended New Bethel Baptist Church in Valdosta, GA, and the First Baptist Church in Fairfield, and was a member of the Fairfield and Valdosta Square Dance Clubs..

She is survived by her children and their families: Carl (Rosemary) Johnson of Ostelic, NY, Anna Mae Edwards of Lime Springs, IA, Neda (Frank) Swords of Valdosta, GA, Larry (Marsha) Johnson of Richland, IA, Karen Rae (Mike) Lyons of Fairfield, IA; and a sister, Darlene Franzen of Maquoketa, IA. Mildred was blessed with 22 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; son Myron Everett Johnson, Jr.; two sisters and two brothers: Alberta Morehead, Francis Edwards, Pauline Larkey, and Charles Edwards.
