Miriam Elaine Vorhies

Miriam Elaine Vorhies age 91 of Fairfield, passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2019, at Parkview Care Center.

Funeral Services will be held at 4:00 pm, Saturday, November 23, 2019, at the First Lutheran Church, with Pastor Gregory Friedrich officiating.  A celebration of life reception will immediately follow at Elks Lodge until 8:00 p.m.

There will be a private burial of cremains at Evergreen Cemetery.

Miriam was born February 29, 1928, in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa to Mark F. and Ada C. (Thorson) Speaker.  She married Warren T. Vorhies on June 19, 1944, in Cedar Rapids, IA.  He passed away January 28, 1998.

Miriam and Warren owned and operated Vorhies Construction.  She was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Fairfield Golf & Country Club, T.T.T and P.E.O.  Miriam was an excellent seamstress.  She loved working in her flower bed and enjoyed cooking and entertaining friends and family.

Miriam will be missed by her children, Kent (Karen) Vorhies of Prescott, AZ, Katharine (Larry) Dickstein of Kansas City, MO, Margaret (Jeff) Allen of Denver, IA, Janice (Greg) DeAth of Fairfield, IA and Karen (Tom) Shepherd of Kirkland, WA; 12 grandchildren, Chelann, Todd, Jeremy, Justin, Dan, Mark, Sarah, Jenniffer, Jamie, Emily, Elliot and Mitchell (deceased); and 24 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mark and Ada; her husband Warren; two brothers, one sister and grandson, Mitchell.
