Nada Lavelle Hill, age 90 of Fairfield, IA, passed away Friday, November 27, 2009 at Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield.

Nada Lavelle Hill was born in Bunch (Drakesville), IA on June 14, 1919, the only child of George Millard and Inez (Smith) Hanna. Her mother died of tuberculosis when she was five, and Lavelle was raised by her grandparents, Warren and Julie Smith of Bunch, IA. She attended Bunch grade school and graduated from Selma High School in 1937. Lavelle earned her teaching degree at Parsons College and taught in a county rural school.
She was united in marriage with Gerald 'Pappy' Hill June 14, 1940 in Libertyville, IA by her cousin, Rev. Otis Smith of Des Moines, IA. After 68 years of marriage, Gerald preceded her in death on August 6, 2008.
Lavelle was a devoted wife and mother, assisting her husband in farming for 30 years near Libertyville and Fairfield. She later worked for the Fairfield Community School District for 25 years. Lavelle enjoyed time spent with her family; particularly her grandchildren's activities; wildlife, playing cards and music.
She is survived by her children and their families: Connie Parrish of Keosauqua, IA, Danny Hill and wife Cathi of Washington, IA, and Dr. Donal Hill and wife Mary of Fairfield. Lavelle was blessed with five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Lavelle was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Jerry Parrish.
