Norman I. Atwood, age 57 of Fairfield, IA, passed away Wednesday morning, July 23, 2008 at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield, IA.

Friends may pay their respects to the family Friday, July 25, 2008 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM, Saturday, July 26, 2008 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fairfield with Pastor Mark Brase officiating. Interment will be held in Packwood Cemetery, Packwood, IA.

The family suggests memorials be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Jefferson County Fairgrounds. Cards and memorial may be sent c/o:

Norman Irwin Atwood was born February 2, 1951 in Fairfield, IA to Donald and Eunice (Treese) Atwood. He graduated from Fairfield High School in 1969 and Iowa State University in 1973. He was a member of the Jefferson County community all his life.

Norman was united in marriage with Dorian Dieterich on March 17, 1973 at St. Ansgar, IA. They are the parents of one son, Jeremy.

Norman farmed for 35 years. He was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fairfield, where he held office, sang in the choir, and taught Sunday School. In addition, he was Director of New Alliance Farm Service, a past President of Jefferson County Farm Bureau, and former 4-H Leader.

Norman loved his family, especially spending time with his grandson, Brock. He enjoyed boating, camping, and was an avid race fan. His memory will be cherished by his family and his many friends.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Dorian of Fairfield, their son and his family, Jeremy Atwood and wife Angie of Fairfield, grandson Brock, and his parents, Donald and Eunice Atwood of Packwood. Survivors include two sisters; Gayle Olson and husband Dale of Webster City, IA, and Zoe Moritz and husband Bill of Packwood, IA.
