Patrice A. Schafer

            Patrice Ann “Pat” Schafer, 75, a resident of Fairfield, passed away, Sunday, January 7, 2024 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

            A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Burial will be at Iowaville Cemetery in Selma. Memorials may be made to the family. Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield is assisting the family with arrangements.

            Pat was born March 16, 1948 in Livonia, Michigan, the daughter of Kenneth and Delphiene (Bigando) Sembla. She married Maxwell Wilkins. They later divorced. She married Walter Schafer, October 12, 2006. He preceded her in death April 24, 2012.

            Pat worked as the church secretary for First United Methodist Church in Ottumwa and was a foster parent, eventually adopting three of those children. She enjoyed spending time outdoors and camping, and cherished her time spent with family.

            Those left to honor her memory include her children, Darrick Cecchini, Lisa (Jeff) Harris, Theresa Carson, William Van Ness Jr., Bryan Wilkins and Patricia Wilkins; 12 grandchildren, Hunter, Katrina, Darrian, Damien, Devyne, Sidney, Cursty, Justin, Hanna, Hailey, Heather, and Chris; many great-grandchildren; and her significant other, Kenneth Sidwell.

            In addition to her husband, Walter, she was preceded in death by her parents; and daughter, Chauntel Wilkins.
