Phyllis Kay Hird, age 64 of Germanville, passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa, following a sudden illness.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 27, 2013, at Salina Presbyterian Church with Pastor Clarence Anderson and Father Charles Fladung officiating. Burial will be at Salina Cemetery.
Visitation for family and friends will be held 6 p.m. - 8 p.m., Thursday, September 26, 2013, at Behner Funeral Home.

Phyllis was born March 13, 1949 in Mt Pleasant, Iowa to Merlyn D. and Emma Kay (Smith) Anderson. She married Jerry LeRoy Hird March 13, 1982.
She graduated from Fairfield High School, class of 1967. She graduated from Indian Hills Community College in nursing.
She worked for 21 years as a LPN at Henry Co Hospital Long Term Care and 19 years at Pleasant Manor Nursing Home, Mt Pleasant, Iowa. Phyllis lived most of her life in Walnut Township. She enjoyed collecting dolls and mushrooming. But most of all she loved to take care of people, especially her family and those in her care at the nursing home. It was her calling and she will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Phyllis was a member of Ladies Aide, Dorcas Society, Iowa State Nurses Association and lifetime member of Salina Presbyterian Church.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Jerry Hird; 3 daughters, Ranee (Alan) Fladung of Wellman, Iowa, Kaleen (Stefano Terry) Hird of Culver City, CA and Alisha Hird of Brighton, Iowa; 4 step children, Bill Hird of Lockridge, Iowa, Sherry Myers of Georgia, Joseph (Melanie) Hird of Libertyville, Iowa and Jeremy Hird of Fairfield, Iowa; 2 grandchildren, Amelia Fladung and David Fladung of Wellman, Iowa; 16 Step- Grandchildren; 6 Step-Great-Grandchildren; 5 siblings, Roy Anderson, Elaine Anderson, Kathleen Anderson, Robert Anderson, all of Brighton, Iowa and Richard (Kim Mehlenbacher) Anderson of Storm Lake, Iowa; and two nieces, Kristin Anderson of Storm Lake, Iowa and Erin Anderson of Wyoming.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 1 brother, Roger Anderson; 1 step daughter, Marsha Stevens; and 2 step- grandchildren, David Hird and Dorothy Nelson.
