Rex W. Godwin

Rex W. Godwin, age 84, of Fairfield, passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2017, at Jefferson County Health Center.

Visitation for family & friends will be 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm, Sunday, November 19, 2017, at Behner Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be 11:00 am, Monday, November 20, 2017, at First Lutheran Church with Pastor Greg Friedrich officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Lawn Cemetery.

Rex was born March 25, 1933, in Fairfield to Warren and Bernice (Coop) Godwin. He married Evelyn Riepe on March 27, 1952. She passed away November 23, 1994. Rex later married Lucille (Pencil) Giberson on April 25, 1997. She passed away March 6, 2017.

Rex lived in Jefferson County all his life. He was a dairy farmer and worked at Loudens as a supervisor for 25 years when he retired in 1982. Rex was a member of Odd Fellows, Farm Bureau and Soil Conservation where he served as Iowa State Commissioner in 1987. He sold Archer oil, enjoyed square dancing and neighborhood parties. Rex was a member of the First Lutheran Church.

Left to share Rex’s memories are his children, Ron (Donita) Godwin of Casa Grande, AZ, Don (Ann) Godwin of Fairfield, Ben (Lynn) Godwin of Libertyville, Amy Godwin of Keosauqua and John (Sarah) Godwin of Libertyville; one step daughter, Cathy Giberson of Fairfield; son-in-law, Shannon Fries of Murdock, NE; 15 grandchildren, Alison Godwin, Kyle Godwin, Tige Rainbolt, Zach Rainbolt, Eric Godwin, Justin Godwin, Brian Godwin, Ann Webster, Cari McCellan, Scott Godwin, Matt Godwin, Brett Godwin, Stephanie Fries, Nathan Fries and Cody Fries; 15 great grandchildren; one sister, Dee (Jack) Bradley of Fairfield; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Bernice; 1st wife, Evelyn; one daughter, Angie Fries; 2nd wife, Lucille; and one brother, Glenn.
