Richard D. Barnes, age 73 of Fairfield, passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at the Jefferson County Health Center.
Memorial Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 8, 2011 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Stephen C. Page officiating. Burial of cremains will be in Maple Hill Cemetery at a later date.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 8, 2011 at St. Mary's.

Dick was born in Ottumwa, Iowa on January 31, 1937 to Walter and Cordie Nolan Barnes. He married Karen McFarland in Ottumwa in 1960 and they later divorced. On September 2, 1983 he married Beverly K. Pogemiller.
Dick graduated from Ottumwa High School in 1955 and went on to attend Indian Hills Community College, Iowa Tech and Parson's College. He served in the Iowa National Guard from 1958-1959, worked for John Deere Ottumwa Works for 39 years, retiring in 1994. After retiring, he went to work for Maintenance Engineering for 10 years. He also coached Little League. He was a member of the Ottumwa Elks Lodge, Knights of Columbus and St. Mary's Catholic Church.
He enjoyed woodworking, working in his shop, watching all kinds of sports and was an avid Hawkeye, Dallas Cowboys and NASCAR fan. He also enjoyed watching his boys and step grandchildren participate in sports.
Dick is survived by his wife: Beverly of Fairfield, 1 son: Doug Barnes of Ottumwa, 2 step children: Jackie (Wes) Greenfield of Birmingham and Doug Pogemiller of Austin, Texas, 2 grandchildren: Demi and Derek Barnes, 6 step grandchildren: Kassidy Greenfield-Foote, Landon Greenfield, Marissa Greenfield, Connor Pogemiller, Cole Pogemiller and Kylie Pogemiller, 1 brother: Walter (Marcella) Barnes Jr. of Evergreen, Colorado and 1 sister: Kay (Larry) Roush of Ottumwa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 son: Denny Barnes.
