Richard was born in Douds, IA on April 17, 1934 to Kenneth and Laverne Dick. He graduated from Douds High School (class of ‘51) and worked in sales for TPC for over 20 years. He was a 60-year member of the Celestial Lodge No. 413, and a member of the Fairfield Lions club. Richard married Shirley Atwood on June 29, 1996. They enjoyed traveling during their retirement years, going to Mexico, Ireland and the Dominican Republic as well as taking several cruises. He and Shirley were members at Friends Church in Fairfield, IA and belong to Living Hope Wesleyan in Cedar Rapids, IA. Richard was an avid Hawkeye and Cowboys fan and rarely missed a game- Go Hawks!

Richard was an outgoing, happy soul who didn’t know a stranger. He loved meeting new people wherever he went. Spending time with family and friends was important to him and he could be found boating with family during the summer, watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their sports and activities, or traveling to visit his family out of state.

Richard is survived by his wife of 21 years; brother, Jim (Sondra); half-brother, Bob (Laura) Crist; half-sister, Linda Crist Bullock (Rodger); son, Ron; step-daughter, Deb Forbes (Mark Wenman); step-sons, Mike and Scott Atwood; brother-in-law, Chuck (Sharyn) Workman; daughter-in-law, Cecilia; grand-children, Dillon, Caitlin, Allison, Denise, Chelsea (Rob) Archibald, Cassi Forbes, Kayla Atwood and Evan Atwood; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, son Kenneth, and an infant daughter Debbie.

The family would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the staff and residents at Summit Pointe in Marion. Their care of Richard and Shirley during their residency and continuing support of Shirley during this time are immensely impactful.
