Richard Charles Ross

Richard Charles Ross age 90 of Birmingham, passed away Monday, October 17, 2022, at Prestige Care Center.

Celebration of Life Gathering will be 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 22, 2022, at the Birmingham Fire Department.

A memorial has been established and can be mailed to Charlotte Neil, 130 East Main, P.O. Box 91, Birmingham, Iowa 52535.

Richard was born September 21, 1932, in Burlington, Iowa to David Walker and Nan (Allen) Ross.  He married Joyce J. Dilsaver in 1957 and she passed away July 4, 1984.  Richard married Jacqueline Cupps in 2006 and she passed away March 7, 2013.

Richard farmed and worked for the City of Birmingham in the maintenance department for 40 plus years.  He also served 45 years on the Birmingham Fire Department and during that time served as Fire Chief.  Richard collected Allis Chalmers tractors and memorabilia.  Every year he attended Old Threshers Reunion.  Richard also enjoyed sitting and watching trains.   Most important was spending time with his family.

He will be missed by his children, Charlotte (Terry) Neil of Birmingham, Wayne Ross of Urbandale, David Ross of Fairfield and Madonna (Dave) Smithburg of Batavia; stepson, Ron Jamison; 4 grandchildren, Nancy Neil, Tucker Neil, Stephanie (Joe) Schafer and Michael (Chelsey) Smithburg; and 7 great grandchildren.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, David and Nan; wives, Joyce and Jacqueline; and one infant brother.
