Richard James Russell, Sr

Richard James "Dutch" Russell, Sr., age 87, passed away February 4, 2007 at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield, IA.

Memorial services were held 10:00 AM, Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at Behner Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Cary officiating. Burial of cremains will be at a later date.

Richard James "Dutch" Russell, Sr. was born August 16, 1919 in Linby, IA. He was the son of George and Grace (Smith) Russell. Dutch lived all his life in the Fairfield community, and was united in marriage with Betty Burger in Mt. Pleasant, IA on October 10, 1981.

Dutch served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was employed as a truck driver and bus driver for the 10-15 Transit Company in Ottumwa, IA for 65 years.

Dutch is survived by his wife, Betty, of Fairfield, his step-son, Terry French and wife Cindy of Hillsboro, IA, and two daughters: Mayree Workman and husband Curtis, and Jennifer Vannoy and husband Michael, all of Fairfield. He has three grandchildren: Cathy Geiger, Cheryl Lennie, and Tarrant French, eight great-grandchidren, and several nieces and nephews.

Dutch was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers: Nellie Curtis, May Overman, Leonard Russell, and Milton Russell.
