In Loving Memory: Rita Dolores Vernon, 66, died at home on 9/4/2024, surrounded by family, friends and caregivers.
Rita spent her teenage years in Cape May, New Jersey where she fell in love with the ocean and all of nature. The seventh of eight children, Rita spent her teenage years in Cape May, New Jersey where she fell in love with the ocean and all of nature. She graduated from Xavier College in Cincinnati - she was one of the first women to ever receive a basketball scholarship to college rich career as a Montessori teacher in Cincinnati, Ohio gave her a lifetime of joy as she followed her students into adulthood, parenthood, and their careers. She fostered her students education as well as their positive self image and taught them unconditional love.
Rita moved to Fairfield, Iowa in 2020 in hopes of connecting with the Oracle Girl community there. Their spiritual connection to nature resonated with her soul. She was meant to go to Fairfield, as the OG community gave her abundant joy and companionship. Her new family was there for her through her hospice journey, and after, with unrelenting love and care. She closed the hospice chapter of her life in peace and serenity; qualities she always personified.
Rita lived life with courage, authenticity, originality, willful determination, and, always followed the guidance of her heart. Her fiercest loves include: nature, Rosebud her cat, basketball, surfing, cold water plunging, being creative, her spirituality, her friends and family.She will be remembered for the beauty of her light and the grace of her presence. She will be sorely missed by all who had the good fortune to know her.
Rita is survived by her siblings, John, Michael, Patty, Peter, Andy, Chrissy and Matthew, their children and their children’s children. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Rita’s Oracle Girl community, her friends, her Compassus care givers, all those in Rita’s circle, for their support and love during and after her journey in Fairfield.
There will be a private service for Rita, she can be remembered with donations to your favorite charity.
