After a lengthy battle with cancer, Robert W. "Bob" Glass, 1103 S. 8th St., Fairfield, passed to a new life on November 18 at home.
Bob was born September 18, 1931 in Warrenville, IL, the son of Walter and Marion Breese Glass. Bob's childhood was spent in Aurora and Washington, D.C., holding many jobs at a young age in an effort to help support his 9 siblings. This was the foundation for his approach to life: being responsible, reliable, honest, and never giving up.
He married Marilyn Pruden on December 10, 1950 in Fairfield and was father to Dan (Deb) of Fairfield, Bob (Dale Sue) of Libertyville, Lani of Richland, and Dave of Lake of the Ozarks, MO.
Grandpa has 8 grandchildren -- Jason (Megan) Glass and Tiffany (Chris Norris, Rob Glass and Katie Glass, Seth (Lyndsie) Burns, Jared Burns, Alexi Holmes, and Cory Glass. Great grandchildren are Kennedy Claire Burns and Samantha Jean Glass.
Bob's Service was in operation for 42 years -- including towing and tire service, and petroleum distribution. After retirement, he worked for Nelson Company, Bovard Studios, and Finney Body Shop. He was a member of the Fairfield Fire Department for 22 years, Fairfield Little League president for 7 years, member St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fairfield, past grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Council 4092 in Fairfield, and member of the 4th degree Knights of Columbus -- McMullen Assembly of Ottumwa, Charter member of the CALU Board, and avid golfer and Cubs fan.
Surviving siblings are Jack (Georgetta) and Rick (Jeanne) of Fairfield, Ginny (Jim) Gengler of Birmingham, Mary Alice (Bob) Darr of Milton, Mart (Don) Heldenberg of Parrott, GA, Barbara (Jim) Dray and Steve of Aurora, IL, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Bill and Tom, and grandson Bryce Michael Burns.
The body has been cremated per Bob's wishes. Inurnment will be in Evergreen Cemetery at a later date.
