Robert "Bob" Lee Hiatt

Robert "Bob" Lee Hiatt, age 90, of Fairfield, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 6, 2011 at First United Methodist Church in Fairfield, with Pastor Mike Metz officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 5, 2011 at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church or Jefferson County Relay for Life. Cards and memorials can be sent to 224 Country View Dr., Mechanicsville, Iowa 52306.

Bob was born April 9, 1921 to Almus Lee and Pauline Almira Robinson Hiatt in Fairfield. He married Helen Koontz in 1941 and she passed away on March 3, 1974. He then married A. Jean Fiedler in 1976 and she passed away on September 6, 2008.

He graduated from Fairfield High School with the class of 1938. Bob farmed until 1954, was an oil distributor for Hiatt Oil Company until 1979 and was also a Jefferson County Corrections officer until he retired in 1989. He was a life member, past secretary and Past Exalted Ruler of Elks Lodge 1192, Fairfield Lions Club, 50 year member and Past Noble Grand of I.O.O.F , a member of the Jefferson County Police Reserves and in 1951 he received the Jefferson County Conservation Award. He loved music and dancing and enjoyed fishing with his grandson, playing cards, old tractors and being with family and friends.

Bob is survived by 2 children: Connie (Jerry) Inman of Mechanicsville and Roger Hiatt of Apache Junction, Arizona, Special Friend: Jean Keller of Fairfield, 3 step sons: Kim Fiedler of Florida, Randy Fiedler of Cedar Rapids and Scott Fiedler of California, 1 granddaughter, 3 grandsons, 3 step granddaughters, 5 step grandsons, 4 great-granddaughters and 1 great-grandson and 1 sister: Lois (Gene) Haile of Burlington.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 spouses, 1 son: William "Bill" Hiatt, 1 sister: Mary Louise Sutherlin, 1 brother: Eugene Hiatt and 1 stepson: Craig Fiedler.
