Robert William Russell was born May 17, 1944 in Newton, Iowa, the son of Francis G. and Donna (Gilmore) Russell. He graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1962. Bob was married to Judy (Beyer) Ogier for over 25 years and they later divorced. On November 16, 1991, Bob married Zoeann Dixson in Boone, Iowa.

Bob worked for Ham's DX in Newton before owning his first service station in 1966. He owned and operated Russell's DX service stations in Grinnell, Des Moines, Newton, Mitchellville, Altoona, and Valley DX in West Des Moines. IA.

Bob was employed as Service Manager for Dick Hazelbaker Chevrolet in Des Moines and Dailey Motors in Decorah before joining Pat Clemons, Inc. in Boone and later in Fairfield, being with Pat Clemon, Inc. for 25 years. He was Service Manager at Clemons Auto Group in Fairfield and belonged to the "Only The Best Club" for service managers, earning numerous awards during his career. He was a Mason and a Scout Master in 2001 for the local Boy Scout troop. Bob's memberships included Fairfield Eagles Lodge #1927 and he was a member of the Mitchellville, IA Jaycees.

Bob enjoyed and was well known for his fishing expertise.

Survivors include his wife, Zoeann, daughter Debbie Hackathorn and her husband, Todd, of Newton, IA, son Nicholas Russell of Fairfield and step-son Robert Eschliman and his wife Sharla, of Sheldon, Iowa. Bob was grandfather to 2 granddaughters, Brittany and Bailey, and 2 step-granddaughters.

Preceding Bob in death were his parents and his grandparents.
