Roy "Wayne" Mitchell

Roy “Wayne” Mitchell age 71 of Packwood, passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Jefferson County Health Center.

Visitation for family & friends will be 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm, Friday, April 21, 2017 at Prairie View United Methodist Church, Packwood, IA.

Memorial service will be 10:30 am, Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Prairie View United Methodist Church with Pastor Frosty VanVoorst officiating. Burial will be at Packwood Cemetery.

In-lieu of flowers memorials can be made to 4-H. Cards and memorials can be mailed to Mitchell Family, 1124 Driftwood Ave., Packwood, IA 52580.

Wayne was born May 4, 1945 to Willis Lee and Iva Bell (Hill) Mitchell. He married Gwenith Renae Kells June 29, 1974. This year they would have celebrated 43 years of marriage.

Wayne was a lifelong farmer in the Packwood community. He was a member of Lions Club, Elks Lodge and Jefferson County Cattleman’s Association. Wayne would help with the 4-H youth committee and was on the extension 4-H County Council. He enjoyed showing cattle at the Iowa State and County Fairs. Wayne was a volunteer for the Packwood Fire Department for over 30 years. He liked vintage International Harvest tractors and followed Iowa Hawkeye football. What was most important to Wayne was spending time with family, friends and being on the farm tending to his angus cowherd.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Gwenith Mitchell of Packwood, IA; three children, Ryan (Heather) Mitchell of Pella, IA, Grant (Katie) Mitchell of Ollie, IA and Renae (Patrick) Sikora of Waverly, IA; 7 grandchildren, Riddik Mitchell, Maddox Mitchell, Jasper Mitchell, Ivy Jo Mitchell, Taylor Sikora, Owen Sikora and Kate Sikora; his mother, Iva Bell Mitchell of Fairfield, IA; one brother, Gordon (Ruth Ann) Mitchell of Peoria, AZ; and one sister, Wynona (Jerry) Adams of Salisbury, MO.

He was preceded in death by his father, Willis Mitchell.
