Ruth Esther Haifley

Ruth Esther Haifley, age 88 of Fairfield, passed away Sunday, July 19, 2015 at Jefferson County Health Center, Fairfield, IA.

Visitation for family and friends will be 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm, July 23, 2015 at Church of the Nazarene prior to the service.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, July 23, 2015 at Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Howard Innis officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield, IA.

Ruth was born December 6, 1926 to Oscar Scott and Lozett (McKeehen) Green in Bowmont, Idaho. She married John J. Haifley, June 6, 1948 at Church of Nazarene in Fairfield, Iowa. He passed away May 4, 2010.

Ruth lived in Idaho till she was 16, moved to South Dakota and was there until she was 20 and then moved to Fairfield. She attended Parsons College and earned a 4 year degree in 3 years. Ruth taught 12 years at rural schools, Pleasant Plain School for at least 6 years and then started teaching for Fairfield School district. She retired in 1989 after 41 years of teaching. Ruth was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, Retired School Personnel, and DAR. She enjoyed reading Christian novels, flowers, sewing and cooking.

Ruth is survived by her daughter, Sharon Haifley of Fairfield, Iowa.

She is preceded in death by her husband, John Haifley; parents, Oscar and Lozett Green; one brother, Herman Green; and two sisters, Alice Green (in infancy) and Helen Swartz.
