Sammy "Sam" Eugene Owens

Sammy "Sam" Eugene Owens, age 81 of Fairfield, IA passed away Thursday, December 18, 2014 at home surrounded by his family.

Per his wishes the body was cremated.

Memorial service will be 2:00 pm, Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church, Fairfield with Pastor Joseph Phipps officiating. After the service there will military rites. Burial of cremains will be at a later date.

Sam was born September 25, 1933 to Samuel Ray and Daisy (Cline) Owens in Exline, IA. He married Myrna Beatrice Byars July 23, 1955 in Centerville, IA. They celebrated 59 years of marriage this year.

He served in the US Army. Sam worked for City of Fairfield as Street Department Superintendent and retired January 2000 after 24 years of service. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and was on an older men's church volleyball team that won 1st place many times. Sam enjoyed family hunting and fishing trips, yard work, camping, square dancing and going to McDonalds Coffee Club. When his boys were younger he was a scout master for troop #60 Cub Scouts and recently he was a leader for #67 Boy Scouts. Sam's main purpose in life was his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He and Myrna loved to go to his kids and grandkids activities. Sam was always lending a hand to friends and families.

Sam is survived by his wife, Myrna Owens of Fairfield, IA; 3 sons, Samuel Lee (Candi) Owens of Branson, MO, Robert Duane (JoEllyn) Owens of Wichita Falls, TX, and Bryan Sean (Debra) Owens of Las Vegas, NV; one daughter, Kendra Kathleen (Brian) Owens Struck of Fairfield, IA; 11 grandchildren, Amber Crooker, Erin Owens, Ashley Smith, Caleb Hale, Nykole Thacker, Kelsey Thacker, Sam Struck, Lexus Owens, Mitchell Thacker, Katrina Owens and Lily Struck; 6 Great Grandchildren; two sisters, Goldie Dwight and Patricia Ruggles both of Centerville, IA; one brother, Larry Owens of Fairfield, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Daisy Owens; 4 brothers, Robert, William "Bill", Ira "Frank" and Jerry Owens.
