Shirley was born on August 28, 1926 in Oak Park, Illinois to George and Ruth Hohmer Blum.

She was a Middle School Science teacher in Illinois. She was a world traveler, Book Club member, wrote life style news articles in the Chicago area, gave piano lessons, liked to do water walking for exercise, was an avid reader and was a rock hound/geologist.

Shirley is survived by 1 niece: Lynn Iverson, 1 nephew: Keith (Sandi) Dimmitt and a friend: Walter Walker and family.
