Thelma Helen Roland

Thelma Helen Roland, age 89 of Birmingham, passed away February 9, 2014 at her home.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 am, Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Birmingham United Methodist Church with Pastor Herb Shafer officiating. Burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in Birmingham, IA.

Visitation for family and friends will be 10:00am – 11:00 am, Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Birmingham United Methodist Church prior to the service.

Thelma Helen Roland was born May 7, 1924 in Fairfield, IA to James and Rhea (Byers) Stansberry. She married James W. Roland January 29, 1945 in Fairfield. He passed away August 29, 2012.

Thelma graduated from Libertyville High School. She and James lived in the Birmingham area. Thelma was a member of the Birmingham United Methodist Church and also the Red Hat Society. She loved cooking for family and friends.

Survivors include 3 children: Kathy (Floyd Gourley) Conger of Fairfield, IA, Richard (Connie) Roland of Clarksville, TN and Dennis Roland of Birmingham, IA; 11 grandchildren: Kelly (Neal) Shaw of Shawnee, KS, Kary Green of Mediapolis, IA, Sarah (Seth) Bordenstein of Nashville, TN, Trevor J. Roland of Nashville, TN, Amber Roland, of Nashville, TN, Spencer Roland of Nashville, TN, Jacob Mills of Nashville, TN, Jordan Roland of Nashville, TN, Stacy Roland of Cedar Rapids, IA, Sandra (Justin) Larence of Cedar Rapids, IA and James Mitchel Roland of Cedar Rapids, IA.; 11 great grandchildren; 2 sisters: Kathleen Brumm of Indianola, IA and Jeannie Christensen of Chetek, WI, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 2 brothers: John and Robert Stansberry.
