Thelma Sirdoreus was born July 23, 1921 in Ottumwa, IA, the daughter of Harry and Edith (Speer) Grissom. She grew up in Fairfield and graduated from Fairfield High School with the Class of 1940, the first class to graduate in the new high school building.

Thelma married Clarence D. Sirdoreus in Memphis, MO on December 29, 1941. Mr. Sirdoreus passed away November 4, 2004. They were the parents of three children: Mary, Jerry and Don.

Thelma was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed cooking, canning and baking and took pleasure in sewing for her family. Thelma was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fairfield since December 29, 1957, as well as a member of the Bradshaw Helping Hand Club for over 56 years. Besides cooking and baking, her hobbies and interests included crocheting, quilting, gardening, attending the Iowa State Fair and camping with her grandchildren.

Thelma is survived by her children and their families: daughter Mary Tedrow and her husband, Tim, and two sons: Jerry Sirdoreus and wife Ann, and Don Sirdoreus and wife Joan, all of Fairfield, IA.

Thelma was grandmother to six grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and had three great-grandchildren.

Thelma was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Clarence.

When we are children, we are happy and gay and our Mother is young and she laughs as we play. Then, as we grow up, she teaches us truth and lays Life's foundations in the days of our youth. Then, it is time for us to leave home, but her teachings go with up wherever we roam. For all that she taught us, and all that we did when we were so often jus a "bad little kid." We often remember and then realize that mothers are special and wonderfully wise.

And as she grows older, we look back with love, knowing that mothers are "Gifts from Above". And, when she "goes Home" to receive her reward, she will dwell in God's Kingdom and "keep house for the Lord". Where she'll "light up" the stars that shine through the night and keep all the moonbeams "sparkling and bright." And then, with the dawn, she'll put the darkness away, as she "scours the sun to new brilliance each day.

So, dry tears of sorrow, for mothers don't die. They move in with God and keep house in the sky. And there, in God's Kingdom, mothers watch from above to welcome their children with their undying love. ~Helen Steiner Rice
