Thomas M. Howell

Thomas M. Howell, age 85 passed away March 4, 2011 at Park Place in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.

Funeral service will be held 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church in Fairfield, with Rev. Mike Metz officiating. Burial will be in Glasgow Cemetery.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 8 at the Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Thomas was born at home in Jefferson County on July 20, 1925 to Parvin and Helen Thomson Howell. He married Rachel Riepe at home in Mt. Pleasant on June 1, 1947.

He graduated from Fairfield High School with the class of 1943. He farmed the family farm in Round Praire Township since 1936, which has been in the family since 1839. Thomas was affiliated with the First United Methodist Church, was a 50 year member of the Odd Fellows Lodge # 4, the Howard Johnson Coffee Club and was the secretary for Glasgow Cemetery. He also enjoyed turkey and deer hunting.

Thomas is survived by his wife: Rachel Howell, 4 siblings: Margaret (Kenneth) Newell of Pleasant Hill, Iowa, George Howell of Louisville, Kentucky, Fern Crafton of Fairfield, Iowa and Evelyn Zumdome of Ft. Madison, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 sister: Vernie Metz.
