Virginia G. Greiner, 70 of 1573 Pleasant Plain Road passed away August 13, 2010 in Perlee, Ia. from complications of Renal Cell Cancer.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday August 18, 2010 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Pleasant Plain with Rev. Fr. Bob Striegel officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield, Ia.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday Aug. 17, 2010 with prayers for the christian wake at 4:30 P.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in East Pleasant Plain.
In Lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Ottumwa Good Samaritan Hospice, St. Mary Catholic Church or St. Joseph Catholic Church and mailed to Mark Greiner 1571 Olive Ave. Fairfield, Iowa 52556.
Virginia was born Feb. 12, 1940 in Galesburg, IL. the daughter of Clete and Gertrude (Tierney) Smith. She graduated from Monmouth High School and completed two years at Mary Crest College, Davenport,Iowa. She married Donald J. Greiner, November 21, 1959 at Monmouth, Illinois. He died December 4, 1998.
She is survived by three sons and their wives: Mark (Karen) Greiner of Fairfield,Ia., Jeff (Lori) Greiner of Lockridge, Ia., Chris (Kristin)Greiner of Runnells, Ia., and two daughters: Cindy (Curtis)Bunker of Blairstown,Ia. and Sally of Ottumwa, Ia. She leaves 14 Grandchildren, Alisha, Sabrina, Samantha, Abby, Jasmine, Stephen, Michael, Jake, Hanna, A.J., Luke, Seth, Joel and Chloe; and two great granddaughters, Payten Poling and Riley Warner. Also surviving are her three siblings and spouses: Irene Johnson of Winfield,Ia. David (Pearl)Smith of Monmouth,Il. and Earl (Phillis) Smith of Kirkwood,Il. and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband: Don Greiner, son: Phillip Anthony 1968-1987, one infant brother:Allan Clete 1951, and her parents Clete Smith 1918-1978 and Gertrude (Tierney)Smith 1914-1992.
Virginia enjoyed family, friends,collecting and making dolls, family genealogy, her card clubs, traveling, attending her grandchildren's school activities, "treasure hunting", working with Phil Greiner Memorial scholarship fund and serving others in any way possible.
