Wayne Eugene Smith

Wayne Eugene Smith, age 87, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington.


Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 6, 2011 at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield with Pastor Mike Metz officiating. Burial will be in Fell Cemetery, south of Libertyville.


Visitation for family and friends will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, June 5, 2011 at Behner Funeral Home.


Memorials may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa, Great River Hospice, V.F.W. or Izaak Walton Club. Cards and memorials can be sent to 802 W. Harrison Fairfield, Iowa 52556.


Wayne was born on August 2, 1923 in Keosauqua, to Dale and Jessie Groves Smith. He married Barbara Jean Rail on September 7, 1948 at the First United Methodist Church in Fairfield.


Wayne was owner of Wayne's Body and Fender and then Smith Auto Parts. He served in World War II and on the U.S.S. Chicago for 3 years with the United States Navy. Wayne was a member of the V.F.W., First United Methodist Church and Iowa Auto Recyclers. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking and mushroom hunting.


Wayne is survived by his wife: Barbara, 4 children: Sharlene Smith of Milan, Tennessee, Vicki (Dennis) Wischmeier of Sperry, Timothy (Sherri) Smith of Fairfield and Randy (Terri) Smith of Davenport, 8 grandchildren: Mason (Jennifer) Cooper, Jacob Smith, Lani Smith, Sara (Douglas) Schwartz, Lance Smith, Josh Smith, Tyler Smith and Madison Smith, 2 step grandchildren: Jacob (Annalicia) Wischmeier and Audra (Bryan) Spears, 4 great-grandchildren and 3 step great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother: J.P. Smith.
