Wendell 'Charlie' Charles Neil

Wendell C. Neil, age 73 of Fairfield, passed away Friday, February 6, 2009 at his home.

Visitation with the family will be held at Behner Funeral Home, Sunday, February 8, 2009 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

Graveside funeral services, with Military Rites, will be held 1:00 PM, Monday, February 9, 2009 at Blue Point Cemetery, SW of Richland with Rev. Danny Cary officiating.

Wendell Charles Neil was born in Mt. Pleasant, IA on September 23, 1935 to Rex and Mary (Schreiner) Neil. He was united in marriage with Mary Louise Harper in Kahoka, MO on June 15, 1963.

Charlie was employed for 29 years with the Rockwell Internation Company/Meritor, retiring in 1992, and a member of the Iowa National Guard, retiring in 1988. He was a huge fan of the Chicago Cubs, and Iowa football and basketball. He enjoyed attending auctions and flea markets.

Charlie is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary, of Fairfield and their children and their families: Terry Neil and wife Charlotte of Birmingham, IA, Kevin Cook and wife Michelle of Farmington, MN, Jon Neil and wife Tammy of Bloomfield, IA, and Cathy Lathrop and husband Bob of Fairfield. Charlie was blessed with 16 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Survivors include a brother, Ted Neil of New Virginia, IA, and two sisters: Virginia Neil of Prescott, AZ, and Florence Neil of Des Moines, IA.
