William Lee Royer, of Burlington, passed away Thursday, January 6, 2011 at Klein Center in Burlington, Iowa.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 8, 2011 at Sunnyside Baptist Church in Burlington, with Pastor Larry Dodds officiating. Burial with Military Rites will be in Friends Cemetery in Richland, Iowa Saturday afternoon.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 8, 2011 at Sunnyside Baptist Church.

Memorials may be made to Sunnyside Baptist Church or Great River Hospice and can be sent to 10564 Rolling Hills Drive Burlington, Iowa 52601.

William was born in Brighton, Iowa on February 3, to Everett Lee and Mabel Mullikin Royer. He married Alice-Kaye Snider on September 16, 1947 in Fairfield, Iowa.

He went to Parson's College in Fairfield, Milwaukee School of Engineering, Indiana Institute of Technology and studied at UCLA. William was an electrical engineer for the US Embassy in Moscow, Russia and was a chief engineer in Saudi Arabia. He was a radio operator for the US Navy during World War II and was discharged on April 11, 1946. He had lived in Santa Monica and Huntington Beach, California, Yanbu and Al Kobar, Saudi Arabia and Moscow, Russia. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge in Burlington.

William is survived by his wife, 1 brother: Joe (Carol) Royer and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by 8 siblings: Mildred Bensmiller, Marjorie Lillard, Richard Royer, James Royer, Thomas Royer, Robert Royer, Charles Kenneth Royer and Rev. John Royer.
